physiotherapy frequently asked questions...

What should I wear?

Wear clothing that is easy to move in and best reveals the area of your body receiving treatment.  For example shorts or elastic wasted loose fitting pants are best for back, hip, and knee treatments.  Open backed tank tops or wide necked t-shirts are best for shoulder, neck and upper spine treatments.

How long should I expect my visit to take?

Everybody’s first visit will last an hour long.  Follow up visits are scheduled for 30 minutes of direct one on one time with the therapist.

What are my payment options?

You can pay for your treatment with either cash or cheque.

Do I need a Doctor’s referral?

A referral is not needed unless you are being treated for a WCB or ICBC claim.  However, some private insurance companies do require a referral for you to be reimbursed, so it is best to check into your personal plan.

What do I need to be reimbursed by my extended health plan?

At each visit Red Cedar Physiotherapy will provide a receipt with all necessary information for reimbursement.  Each extended health plan differs with regards to the portion of fees that is reimbursed.  Please contact your insurance company for details about your coverage.

What if my injury is a WCB or ICBC claim?

Red Cedar Physiotherapy does treat WCB and ICBC claims.  Please bring with you your Doctor’s referral, ICBC or WCB claim number, personal health number, and your caseworker or ICBC adjustor’s name.  Please note that ICBC does not cover the full cost of physiotherapy and a visit fee is charged.

Does BC Health cover Physiotherapy?

The British Columbia Medical Services Plan (MSP) covers a portion of the fee for lower income individuals eligible for Premium Assistance.  Please discuss with your physiotherapist about your eligibility for MSP coverage.

Is there exercise equipment I can use at the clinic?

At Red Cedar Physiotherapy there is a variety of exercise equipment that may be incorporated into your individualized exercise program including exercise bike, pulleys and weights, BOSU ball, body blades and theraband.

How frequently will I need to attend physiotherapy?

Every condition is individually evaluated and the frequency of treatment suggested by your physiotherapist will vary depending on the severity of injury and patient goals.  For example some people attend physio 1-3 times per week, whereas others attend once every 2-4 weeks.

What is Pilates?

Pilates is a method of exercise where participants recruit their underlying core musculature to support the body’s structure while performing a fluid sequence of movements with a focus on efficiency and form.

Pilates helps with core strength, balance, posture and dynamic alignment.  These, along with the development of new movement patterns and heightened body awareness, all combine to help prevent future re-injury.

It is a beneficial form of exercise for a variety of conditions including back pain, sporting injuries, arthritis, poor posture, and post pregnancy.
